Effigy of The 5th Alpini on the Road | Oga (ENG)

On the roadside wall, there is an embossed insignia of the Alpini: two crossed rifles with bayonets attached and a horn in front bearing the regiment number in a small circle. This is the insignia of the 49th company of the Tirano Battalion of the 5th Regiment, which was tasked with constructing the military road leading from the S. Lucia bridge to Oga. Subsequently, the Military Engineers intervened, sometimes in an authoritative manner, to establish a minimum of road access towards the Oga Fort. The only transit route was Via Roma, and the only way to reach the Fort was via a mule track. During these works, due to the passage of large and cumbersome vehicles and equipment (including the cannons arming the Fort), several houses in Oga were damaged or partially demolished/reduced since Via Roma, the only path through the village, was too narrow.
